There are several careers that can be pursued in the health sector in Jamaica and training is available locally for most of them. Here we have listed the areas of training, the institutions where training is available, the entry qualifications and the certification level.

Midwifery(The Training of basic midwifery resumed September 2001)
Victoria Jubilee School of Midwifery Cornwall School of Nursing Two (2) years 4 Subjects at CXC or GCE O’Level:-3 compulsory in Eng. Lang and a science subject including Biology, Human and Social Biology, Chemistry and Integrated Science1 other subject

Kingston,Cornwall and Excelsior School of Nursing

Northern Caribbean University

Three (3) years

 

Four (4) Years

5 subjects at CXC or GCE O’ Level: -3 compulsory in Eng. Maths and science subject including Biology, Human and Social Biology,Chemistry and Integrated Science.2 other subjects.

Dental Auxillary School 2 (Two) years Age Limit 18- 25 yrs5 subjects: Eng. Lang, Chemistry & Biology or Human & Social Biology plus 1 other subject. Preference will be given if the other subject is Physics or Computer Studies Certificate
Dental Assistants



Dental Auxillary School One (1) Year Age Limit 18 – 35 yrs4 subjects:- GCE or CXC in Maths, Eng. Lang. And
Biology/Human & Social Biology plus 1 other subject. Preference will be given if the other subject is in Office Procedures Computer or Business Manage.
