Bustamante Hospital for Children to undergo renovation and expansion PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 January 2010 20:49
Minister of Health, Hon. Rudyard Spencer says the Bustamante hospital will in the near future be undergoing extensive renovation and expansion. The Minister made the remarks during a recent function to honour the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation, Corporate sponsors and performers, who assisted in the concert held to provide financial support to the hospital. “It will be like we’re building a brand new hospital, a facility that is representative of Jamaica and of which all Jamaicans can be proud. Thanks to the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation and all who participated in the effort. They have once again demonstrated good corporate service and we express our gratitude for what they have done for healthcare in Jamaica and the Bustamante Hospital specifically,” the Minister said. He said the global financial crisis had prevented the government from undertaking the expansion of the hospital previously, but it will now be possible with the level of corporate support that is being given. He however pointed out that even in the midst of the financial difficulties the Ministry of Health has done an enormous amount of work to equip hospitals across the island to bring them as close as possible to international standards. Minister Spencer says the efforts of the Shaggy Make a difference Foundation and corporate Jamaica will allow for better and more advanced treatment, care and support for children who visit the Bustamante hospital. “Jamaica owes you a debt of gratitude and your commitment cannot be quantified in monetary terms.” The Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation has been working with the Bustamante Hospital for Children for the last two years and has provided millions of dollars of well needed equipment and supplies to the facility. The second in what is to be an annual concert was held last week-end, with all proceeds going to the hospital. -30-Contact: MOH, Public Relations Unit - Tel: 967-1561
