MOH Bargaining Groups Establish Monitoring Committee PDF Print E-mail

A ten member monitoring committee has been established to oversee the restructuring exercise being conducted in the Ministry of Health (MOH). The decision was taken at a meeting, yesterday (January 28), between the Minister of Health, Hon. Rudyard Spencer, and over twenty-eight bargaining units representing all unionized workers in the health sector.

Rudyard Spencer has urged groups including non- governmental organizations, corporate sector, faith based organizations and community based organizations to support the government’s actions to protect and promote children’s rights and their needs. Minister Spencer was speaking recently at the 3rd anniversary church service of the Office of the Children’s Registry.

Minister of Health and Chair of the Joint Select Committee of the Houses of Parliament set up to consider the Final Report of the Ministry of Health, Jamaica Abortion Policy Review Advisory Group, was in Morant Bay St. Thomas last night (Thursday, January 27, 2010) leading the third public consultation forum on the issue. The event was held at Morant Villas in the parish. The Panel put forward views on all sides of the issue and allowed for members of the public in attendance to express their ideas and concerns as they relate to the recommendations of the Advisory Group.

Minister of Health, Hon. Rudyard Spencer has urged the Region to continue their collaboration to improve the lives of citizens. Minister Spencer was speaking at the official launch of the Jamaica/Cuba Ophthalmology Centre today (Wednesday, January 27, 2010) on the lawns of the St. Joseph's Hospital. He said the launch of the Centre should not be a one off event and urged Regional countries to collaborate to build a solid future for their people.

Prime Minister, Bruce Golding and Minister of Health, Hon. Rudyard Spencer, will be among the dignitaries who will be participating in the official opening of the Jamaica/Cuba Ophthalmology Centre scheduled for Wednesday, January 27, 2010 on the lawns of the St. Joseph’s Hospital at 1:30pm. The Centre is part of an agreement under the Jamaica/Cuba Eye Care Programme, and is expected to serve Jamaica and the English Speaking Caribbean. Jamaicans will not be required to pay for the services under the programme.

Director of Emergency Disaster Management and Special Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Marion Bullock DuCasse, today (January 22, 2010) accepted a donation of nutritional supplements for the team of Health and Medical volunteers in Haiti.The products, provided by ViSalus – a Health and Wellness Company out of the United States with distribution agents in Jamaica – include Vi-Shake Nutritional Shake Mix, Neuro Energy drink and Nutra Cookies.
