Special Care Nursery at Cornwall Regional Hospital Relocated

The Special Care Nursery (SCN) at the Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH) was relocated to the 7th floor yesterday, June 28, 2017, following reports of poor of air quality issues affecting the area.

The SCN was housed on the 6th floor of the facility and though there has been a dramatic decline in reports of symptoms associated with air quality issues in all areas of CRH since renovations started, some staff members reported experiencing symptoms which could be related to air quality issues that have been affecting CRH.

On June 27, 2017, SCN nurses called in sick and emergency measures were put in place with Medical Officers and Senior Nursing Officers asked to manage the activities of the nursery.Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Winston De La Haye, met with CRH management and representatives from the clinical areas at CRH. This followed a visit by Chief Nursing Officer, Mrs. Marva Lawson-Byfield to the facility on Tuesday June 28, 2017.

All 14 babies were successfully transferred to the 7th floor yesterday morning, June 28, 2017, and the new area visited by the Chief Medical Officer. The full complement of nursing staff of the SCN have reported for duties today.
