Career Opportunity – International Relations Officer [Contract]

JOB PURPOSE

Under the general direction of the Director International Health Cooperation in Health. The incumbent assist in activities to the promoting awareness of facilitating communications with internal and external clients. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing a mechanism for maintain and updating information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Assists the Director in activities relating to promoting/increasing awareness of the International Cooperation in Health Unit both locally and overseas;
  • Maintains communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and its Embassies and Consulates, High Commissions and permanent Missions on matters impacting health;
  • Facilitates the communication between International Development Partners including PAHO, WHO and other UN Agencies on matters relating to health;
  • Facilities the dialogue with CARICOM Secretariat on all regional health issues;
  • Communicates with the relevant officers internal and external to the Ministry for briefing material for high level delegations to local/regional/international meetings/conferences;
  • Assists the Director to facilitate the adequate preparation of briefing packages/speaking notes for high level delegations to local/regional/international meetings/conferences;
  • Maintain active documentation related to decisions, agreements, resolutions or declaration to which Jamaica is a party and ensure any follow up actions/activities where necessary;
  • Develop a mechanism for maintaining updated information on bilateral/multilateral technical cooperation initiatives between Jamaica and other countries
  • Develop and maintain information related to technical cooperation initiatives and activities between the Ministry of Health and overseas Universities, Hospitals, or other training institutions;
  • Ensures the safety and security of confidential documents and reports;
  • Attends meetings as requested by Director;

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Performs any other related duties assigned by the Director, International Cooperation in Health

  • Effective records management systems which respond to the needs of the Unit are developed.
  • Mechanism to maintain updated information on bilateral/multilateral initiatives  developed
  • Dialogue facilitated with CARICOM Secretariat on regional health issues.
  • Communication between  International Development Partners on matters relating to health
  • Confidentiality of all information obtained in the line of duty is preserved.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • in Social Sciences with at least three (3) years experience in Communications or Public relations
