Surveillance Officer (HPC/ALH 1) [Vacant]

JOB PURPOSE

To monitor trends in the occurrence of HIV, STI’s and Tuberculosis in Jamaica and to maintain and improve the epidemiological surveillance system in order to have accurate information to guide the prevention and control of these conditions.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Management of paper surveillance records for HIV, STI and TB cases.
  • Liaison with parish and RHA personnel to assess completeness and timeliness of case investigation reports
  • Timely production of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Participation in the updating and dissemination of manuals and guidelines for the surveillance of HIV, STIs and TB.
  • Participation in the surveillance management of outbreaks, and other national emergencies, as required
  • Coordination of routine HIV and STI surveys
  • Perform related duties including research and production of information on HIV, STIs, and TB for different audiences

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • Paper records for HIV, STIs, and TB well organized, accessible, and secure.
  • Daily, weekly, or monthly follow-up with parish and RHA teams to ensure completeness of case records
  • Timely submission of quarterly HIV and TB reports.
  • Data quality feedback prepared and disseminated quarterly to parish and RHA teams
  • Timely conduct of surveys and preparation of reports
  • Attendance and participation in relevant meetings at the parish, regional, national and international levels.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Sc. Degree in Health Related Sciences or Equivalent
  • Training in Epidemiology or Public Health with a minimum of 3 years working experience in a health field or an appropriate combination of education and experience
