Negril Health Centre to Be Expanded to Become An Urgent Care Centre

Minister of Health, Dr. Fenton Ferguson says the Negril Health centre is to be expanded as part of the North-West Corridor Trauma Plan which is a proposal to develop the corridor from Negril to St. Ann to improve trauma care.  He made the disclosure during a tour of the facility with Minister of Tourism, Dr. Wykeham McNeil on Friday, February 13, 2015.

“When persons have to move to Savanna-La-Mar from Negril in cases of trauma the chance of survival reduces and so we are putting in place an urgent care center as part of a major project from Negril to St. Ann’s Bay. We look forward with great anticipation to this project,” Dr. Ferguson said.

He said more details on the project will be provided at a later date.

In the meantime, Dr. Ferguson said there have been several security improvements at the Negril Health centre which was being plagued by thieves for a number of years.

“There have been a number of break-ins and so we have taken steps to improve the security of the facility including posting a guard. I continue to appeal to community members to safeguard the health centre as it is in place to provide services for you and your children,” he said.
