Youth Interventions Co-ordinator

The National Family Planning Board, a Statutory Agency of the Ministry of Health and Wellness is seeking to identify a motivated, result-orientated, and qualified professional to fill the following vacancy: Youth Interventions Co-ordinator.

 

The incumbent will report to the Director, Health Promotion & Prevention. He/she is responsible for strengthening preventive efforts for all youth groups (in school adolescents, out of school youth (OSY) and young people in institutional care) by delivering interventions to promote responsible sexual behaviour among adolescents and youth through group interactions in schools and in targeted communities to reduce sexual risk taking and behaviours.

 

Technical / Professional Responsibilities

  1. Assists with the strategic planning of interventions and activities targeting youth.
  2. Works closely with other Field Coordinators to visit Intervention sites and assist in the process of:
    • Determining venue eligibility
    • Mapping eligible sites
  3. Coordinates team visits to targeted communities.
  4. Collaborates with stakeholders in public and private to organise special activities in targeted communities focused on Out of School and Unattached youths (e.g. entertainment and sporting events and empowerment fairs).
  5. Identifies and sensitise at least 20 youth influentials in the community on basic sexual reproductive health, family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention education.
  6. Assesses the uptake of condoms and materials via weekly consultations with contact person at site (influential)
  7. Conducts weekly monitoring of sites within assigned clusters and ensure stocks of condoms and IEC materials are replenished.
  8. Conducts weekly school interventions (e.g. class sessions, training of parents and school staff etc.).
  9. Liaises with media partners on youth related activities.
  10. Develops with the assistance of the team, interventions/activities for the target population.
  11. Assists other Field Co-ordinators to conduct ‘special party events’ at assigned sites (e.g. freaky nights) to promote rapid HIV testing and counselling and consistent condom use
  12. Assists the BCC Co-ordinator – Vulnerable with the oversight of procurement of Youth Intervention activities.
  13. Assists with the coordination of focus group discussions amongst the target population.

 

Management/Administrative Responsibilities

  1. Facilitates the preparation of work plans addressing the SRH needs adolescents and youths.
  2. Provides technical oversight of implementation of all field related activities.
  3. Provides weekly and monthly reports as per template on sites being monitored.

 

Other

Performs other related functions assigned from time to time by Director, Health Promotion & Prevention

 

Required Competencies:

Core

  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to undertake research and utilize information for intervention.

 

Technical

  • Basic knowledge of sexual and reproductive health issues
  • Working knowledge of Behaviour Change, Public Health and Health Promotion
  • Experience in working in community settings with youth
  • Experience in strategic planning and implementation
  • Sound project management skills
  • Good training and facilitation skills

 

Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field
  • Certification in Project Management would be an asset.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in social work

 

Specific Conditions associated with the job

  • Frequent travel to schools to oversee outreach activities.
  • Frequent travel to communities and organisations to liaise with site influential to facilitate training.
  • Frequent travel required to conduct site visits with stakeholders in public (Regional Health Authorities), private (Civil Society Organisations and other non-government entities).
