Terms of Reference – Junior Architect Cornwall Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Project

1.0 Project Background

The Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH), built in 1974, is located two miles from the centre of Montego Bay, on a hill in Mt. Salem. It is a 10 storey, 400-bed capacity multi-disciplinary institution. The Cornwall Regional Hospital is a Type ‘A’ hospital providing specialist services, and is the only hospital outside of Kingston providing most of the specialist services.

There have also been reports of indoor air quality (IAQ) concerns from the 1st – 4th  floor since 2009 affecting the first floor – Radiotherapy; second floor – Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA), Laboratory and Accounting Department; third floor – Radiology; and the fourth floor — offices of the Senior Medical Officer.

 

1.0 JOB PURPOSE

Provides support to the Project Architect and design team with design data, drawings, specifications, and presentations. The Junior Architect will also aid in the printing, sharing, reports, and filing of design documents.

 

2.0 MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JUNIOR ARCHITECT

The main responsibilities of the Junior Architect to be achieved are given below:

  • Provides support to Project Architect and management staff.
  • Assists in the review of the design proposals, construction drawings developed
  • Assists in the preparation of reports, and presentation
  • Assists in compiling data for architectural plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, etc.
  • Assists in the preparation of plans for existing buildings where plans are not available.
  • Assists in conducting preliminary studies of proposed projects to obtain information as to space and design requirements, obtaining measurements, and making sketches preliminary to the preparation of drawing.
  • Assists in the preparation of design development drawings.
  • Assists in the preparation of “record” drawings on completion of construction.
  • Assists in developing and/or coordinating the development of detailed working drawings and specifications after approval for the project has been obtained.
  • Reviews shop drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and construction material recommendations submitted by outside architects and contractors to ensure adherence to contract and notify the Architect of discrepancies.

 

3.0 REPORTING

The Junior Architect will report to the Project Architect. At the commencement of each project phase, the Junior Architect will assist with Project Architect with the preparation of architectural plans with timelines for the production of key deliverables. In addition, the Junior Architect will support the design team with drawings, specifications, reporting, printing, and filing.

 

4.0 QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or related field
  • Five (5) years of architectural experience including the use of CAD technology; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Understand the GOJ Procurement Guidelines and Procedures
  • Have a good understanding of GOJ procedures relating to contract administration
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a Team
  • Ability to plan, organize and collaborate with others effectively

 

5.0 EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

  • Display strong usage of AutoCAD, and other architectural software
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), Microsoft Projects, Estimating, Costing, and Bill of Quantity
