National Emergency Operations Center Activated in Preparation for the Passage of Hurricane Matthew

The Ministry of Health has opened its National Emergency National Operations Center (NEOC) as the country prepares for the impact of Hurricane Matthew. Persons who wish to obtain updates and/or advice on health emergencies or concerns can call the following numbers:

Minister of Health, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton said “I am urging all Jamaicans to remain safe as we prepare for this very dangerous storm and in the event of any health emergency please call our NEOC lines for assistance.”

The latest release from the Meteorological Service at 5:00p.m today stated that Hurricane Matthew is moving toward the northwest at 7 km/h (5 mph). A turn toward the north is expected tonight. On the forecast track, the centre of Matthew will approach Jamaica and southwestern Haiti on Monday.
