The agreement between the Government and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for the crafting of the ten (10) year development plan for the health sector was officially signed today (Wednesday, November 11, 2015) at a ceremony held at the Terra Nova Hotel in Kingston.
Minister of Health, Hon. Horace Dalley said the crafting of the plan is an important investment to provide relevant and sufficient quality and affordable health care delivery and services to the population.
“The general objective of the Project is the strengthening of the strategic development planning process for the health sector focusing mainly on the continued roll-out of the Primary Healthcare Renewal Programme and Non Communicable Diseases as part of an integrated health service delivery,” he said.
This includes a reconfiguration of the clinical network of providers in order to improve clinical management and use of resources and to ensure that all points of entry into the healthcare system are prepared to offer the basic package of primary healthcare services.
An oversight Steering Committee has been put in place to ensure that the plan is objectively developed based on the scientific evidence and in a non-partisan manner. The Committee includes personnel from the Government, the Opposition, international partners, the medical profession, academia, the private sector, a user of health facilities and the main health associations.
The IDB has provided US$250,000 to develop the plan.
