Health Ministry takes vaccination on the road
KINGSTON, Jamaica. Wednesday, August 4, 2021: The Ministry of Health and Wellness will tomorrow take vaccination on the road and the first stop is Sovereign Centre in Kingston.
With the benefit of a mobile unit, tents and a team of health care workers –comprised of public health nurses, medical officers of health and emergency medical technicians, among others – the Ministry and the South East Regional Health are looking to vaccinate as many Jamaicans as possible between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.
“We are bringing vaccination to the people. That is how serious we are about saving lives and helping to preserve families and livelihoods as we work to disrupt this pandemic,” said Minister of Health & Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton.
To benefit, members of the public need only show up with their TRN and government-issued identification or a letter from a Justice of the Peace.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness is urging Jamaicans to go out and become vaccinated against COVID-19 while also remaining vigilant in their practice of infection prevention and control (IPC) measures.
In the last day, Jamaica recorded 96 new COVID-19 cases, bringing to 53,639 the total number of infections recorded on the island. Four new deaths were also confirmed, bringing to 1,207 the total number of deaths confirmed on the island since the first case of infection was detected last year.
“If we work together, we can overcome this pandemic. We must get vaccinated. We must also wear our masks, keep our physical distance from others and wash and sanitise our hands frequently,” encouraged Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor-McKenzie.
Meanwhile, the island is continuing its Vaccination Blitz this week, following the arrival of 300,000 AstraZeneca vaccines from the United Kingdom last Friday.
Four days of the islandwide Blitz have yielded the administration of more than 42,000 doses among Jamaicans 18 years and older.
To register to become vaccinated at one of the Ministry’s regular vaccination sites, members of the public are encouraged to make their appointments online at https://www.moh.gov.jm or call the Vaccination Call Centre at 888-ONE-LOVE (888-663-5683).
Once persons have received their appointment confirmation, they are to visit their vaccination site on time and with their TRN and government-issued identification or letter from a Justice of the Peace.
